Dahlias. Divas of the summer cutting garden. If you've always been a little curious about growing dahlias, now is the time to get your hands on some tubers. You can plant them in the ground in early May, or get the tubers started indoors. Just plant them in eight inch pots now, to get a head start on the season, and transplant into the garden in mid-May. By October, you'll have armfulls of darling, drama blooms and enough new tubers to start a nice collection of your own.
Everyone needs a Garden Shadow.
Happy First Day of Spring from your friends and neighbors here at Twig End Farm! I hope your day is full of joy, sunlight, and the promise of good things to come.
I'm looking forward to welcoming the small, heart-stopping wonders that visit the garden each summer, the tiny reminders of this gift called life.
Posting zinnias, just in case you need a splash of color, a spot of summer sunshine, on this winter-white day.
A few scenes from last week's impressive snowfall: Twig End at sunrise, our Lady Eleanor cozy in a mantle of snow, the cut flower garden. This day was sunny and warm; the snow didn't last. But you can be sure my kids enjoyed it while they could.
We recently stole away to one of our favorite cities, Detroit. Special thank you to my parents for watching the kids! Here are some highlights (more photos in stories).
Lily of the valley will be blooming here again in just a few short months. There's nothing like the scent of this dainty beauty. It's so worth the winter cold and darkness knowing we'll be meeting again, little flower, and soon.
